Headhunter Wine Company was conceived to explore the wide variety of “other” grapes in California. When we fell into winemaking, we were amazed at the wide array of varietals that are grown throughout The Golden State. These traditional varieties are, in our opinion, under the radar to most wine drinkers. We hope that we can do a small part in an ongoing effort by many winemakers to bring recognition to these less heralded cultivars.

We aren’t big on big wines. We tend to pick earlier and don’t like new oak at all. Wines go into a mixture of old barrels and puncheons, stainless steel, or the odd car boy here and there. We eschew chemicals in winemaking and fermentations are carried out by native yeasts. Sulphur additions are as little as we feel comfortable with and we’re working towards a goal of zero sulphur. One vintage at a time.

We don’t have a tasting facility – we just don’t produce enough wine at this point to make it worthwhile. However, thanks for visiting us virtually. We check in on social media intermittently. If you really want to get in touch with us send us an email. We’re happy to answer questions.
